Qawwali on Lord Krishna by artists from Pakistan performing in India

Great Listening 9 minutes. Music…Do Listen

How lovely to hear a song to Krishna in the Qawwali form by artists from Pakistan performing in India! It seems doubly poignant when they sing, ‘O Krishna, do you remember us at all?’ seeming to say that we are also yours, and you are also ours. Boundaries of nation, or categories of religion, seem artificial and

  1. Let us set up a chronological order first.
Azeem Farooki sent us (Noor Salik, Dr. Shoeb Amin, DR. Fayyaz Sheikh) this Qawwali in an email.

I heard the Qawwali and wrote him my initial response – which I will write below for your review and comment as well if you deemed necessary.

As an Editor of the Month of TF USA, I was hesitant to post it because of the controversial contents of this Qawwali. Anyway I decided myself to post it and I am fully responsible for the consequences.

You may disagree with the contents, but he is a great Qawwal and it is a great Qawwali at least in my humble judgment.
I will critically analyze the Qawwali as we go along but here is my initial response to Azeem Farooki Sahib in the email.

    Azeem Farooki Sahib!

Thanks for sharing this master piece of Qawwali.
It is a short segment of a longer episode.
He sang only one out of 6 Tnazzullat-e-Sitta.
Great Qawwali voice – touching, paralleling, competing with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Maqbool Sabri Brothers.

Hindu liberalism was evident – woman offering nazrana at the stage.

I enjoyed every bit of it from beginning to end.

    Thanks and best regards
    nSalik

    Question for TF USA Affiliates:

Anybody from TF USA affiliates can tell us, what is Tnazzullat-e-Sitta?

It is term used by the Qawwal in the Qawwali. It is definitely from Islamic mysticism.
I cannot analyze any concept until I understand it first what it means.
To understand any concept, we have to define it first.

We will talk about Occidental Mysticism and Oriental Mysticism, if any one of you will be interested.

If we talk about Mysticism, we should read Mysticism and Logic by Bertrand Russell.
In Islamic Mysticism, the towering names are Ibn-e-Arabi, Imam-e-Ghazali,
    Jalal-ud-Din Rumi, Moeen-ud-Din Chisti.

In Jewish Mysticism we have to study Kaballah which will cover numerology.

Numerology in Islamic traditions is used quite frequently, even now.
Most Muslims know that 786 is the numerological interpretation of “Bismillah Hirrakhma Nirra Kheem”.
[If I am wrong then I will be corrected]

In modern times most Jews have gone beyond numerology.
You tell me about Muslims where they stand in reference to “Numerology” at present.
Most of the Hindus still believe in Numerology and Astrology as well.

These topics can be discussed under Oriental and Occidental Mysticisms.

  2. I wish them good luck, Farid Ayaz & Abu Mohammed are trying to secure a place in Indian music industry, they had to sing Krishna Sb’s Mantras.

The subtitling was very explicit, people are conversant with Krishna Mantras, they know that Kanhaiya means baby Krishna. Instead of writing Kanhaiya it was changed to Krishna, clever.

Mythologyzing history is alluring, it is fodder for free thinking, wild imagination and perversion; literature that evokes mythology has adversely affected the belief system.

Rizwan is not a person standing at the Heaven’s door but it is a ratification and a permission of Allah to let enter the proficient one.

Tnazzullat-e-Sitta is a myth too, Adam did not comply with the order given and he paid the price, and he had to leave. The warning is still valid as of today.

“O sons of Adam, let not Satan beguile you as he did your parents out of Eden” (7:27)

In the variation of Murphy’s Law when chaotic factor is large in number, “any outrageous thing is likely to happen”.

Farid Ayaz is not justified in saying that “his elders kicked the heaven out” in fact it is other way round.

TF USA blog readers: many have commendable tolerance level, they read and respond to versatile opinion with resilience. I know TF USA is not a mosque for sermons, my comments are not a sermon it is just an opinion, I expect that the moderator of the month will approve it.

    • I am writing this comment on Saeed Sahib’s comment.

I found this comment very interesting and complex. This comment is a window where one can see how an enlightened religious mind thinks, reflects and analyzes a complex intellectual situation.

There are quite a few points in this comment which can be dissected.

Let me take the following statement from Saeed Sahib comment.

      Quote starts:

Mythologyzing history is alluring, it is fodder for free thinking, wild imagination and perversion; literature that evokes mythology has adversely affected the belief system.

      Quote Ends:

It is a condensed, complex but intellectually vulnerable statement.
      It has two parts.

Mythologyzing history is fodder for free thinking, wild imagination and perversion.
If I understood Saeed Sahib correctly – he is equating free thinking, wild imagination and perversion.

Free thinking and wild imagination are positive intellectual attributes, whereas perversion has serious negative connotation.

Free thinking and wild imagination are responsible for intellectual growth which human beings have achieved.

Perversion is the result of suppression of free thinking.

Free thinking is discouraged in dogmatic belief ridden societies.
Free thinking results into Philosophy, great literature and all logic driven human knowledge.

Intellectual perversion and stagnation are results of imposing restrictions on human thought.
Look around and see which socities are intellectually flourishing and which socities are intellectually stagnating.
Dogmatic belief ridden so cities or Logic/reason driven socities.

I found this statement utterly absurd.

Literature that evokes mythology has adversely affected the belief system.

All dogmatic belief systems use mythology to solidify their positions – not the other way around.
All mythologies are based on fabrications, of course they are used for the control and intended betterment of the masses.

Logic and reason emancipates human mind from the suffocating grips of myghologies.

Dogmatic belief systems use mythologies to firm their grip on human mind.

All mythologies were created in the past, when human knowledge was in early, primitive stages. All belief systems use mythologies to achieve their desired goals.

Human reason helps human beings to increase intellectual empowerment.

      Marwan
